"You want to be a geography teacher? Then surely you can name all the countries and capitals of Asia!" In our poster presentations, we dispel these prejudices about what geographers know and do. We show that geography, both in science and at school, encompasses much more than topography and comparisons of countries. But what can a contemporary understanding of geographical education look like in encounters while traveling? We addressed this and similar questions on our Japan excursion on a theoretical, methodological and practical level. Find out what the student teachers experienced when planning and carrying out their excursions in Ōsaka and Kyōto, how they addressed geographical phenomena and questions with the help of travel diaries and how "culture" is produced in space.
We will take you on an exciting journey from encounters in space to gaining geographical knowledge!
