The "Jena Voice Learning and Memory Test" measures an individual's ability to learn and recognize voices. The test was developed by scientists at the ENT Clinic and perception psychologists at the University of Jena. How good is your voice memory?

The working group for experimental ENT medicine cordially invites you to learn about your voice memory. In everyday life, we usually recognize people by their faces. But did you know that we are also experts at recognizing human voices? We can usually recognize countless people effortlessly from short utterances, even if we can't see them, e.g. behind us in a queue, in the dark or on the phone. However, some people also report difficulties in recognizing even very familiar people by their voice and often confuse relatives on the telephone, for example. Others never seem to forget a voice and quickly notice when two actors have the same voice actor when watching television.

On the one hand, our research team is interested in what makes voices unique and recognizable. On the other hand, we want to understand why some people find it easy to recognize voices and others find it difficult. We are therefore working on the development of objective tests that measure the ability to recognize other people by their voice. In small groups, you can try out a newly developed hearing test every 30 minutes, in which you first listen to voices through headphones and then have to recognize them from a selection of voices. You should have normal hearing and, if necessary, bring a visual aid so that you can read the instructions on the computer. As an adult, you will receive feedback on how you have performed in comparison to your age group if you wish. Children are also welcome to take part. At our information stand, we will also provide information on interesting questions and facts about voice research and are also interested in your everyday experiences with the human voice.
