Micro-organisms are living chemical factories. From the simplest ingredients, bacteria and fungi produce highly complex substances in a very short space of time, which we use as medicines, cosmetics, solvents or in the production of our food. Electricity can also be generated as a by-product of bacterial metabolism. At the Biotechnikum, we are developing new processes to extract the desired substances from the microbes with the highest possible yield.
