Get to know the Interdisciplinary Day Clinic for Pain Therapy at the UKJ: We present non-drug pain therapy procedures, current research projects and long-term results of day clinic treatment.

Around thirteen million people in Germany suffer from chronic pain. In contrast to acute pain, chronic pain has lost its natural alarm function and becomes a disease in its own right. In most cases, individual treatment strategies, such as taking pain medication, no longer have a sufficient effect. In recent years, the concept of interdisciplinary pain therapy, i.e. treatment by several specialist disciplines, has become established. Since 2013, almost 1000 chronic pain patients have been treated in our interdisciplinary pain day clinic with the involvement of doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, psychotherapists and occupational therapists.
Our staff will give you an insight into the day clinic treatment and introduce you to some of the therapy methods using practical examples. You will have the opportunity to determine your pain tolerance using the so-called ice water test. You can also find out about the long-term effects of our day clinic pain treatment, changes in the brain of chronic pain patients and other current research projects.

Ancient vs. modern times - pain therapy with current-conducting fish? This is also possible in modern times. TENS - small device, big effect.

TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) is a non-invasive method of pain relief in which electrical impulses are sent to the nerves via electrodes on the skin. These impulses block pain signals and promote the release of endogenous endorphins. In pain medicine, TENS is often used as a complementary therapy to relieve chronic and acute pain.
You have the opportunity to try out TENS therapy and obtain information on the subject.

Natural relief - fragrances that gently soothe pain.

Aromatherapy is the science of the senses. Here you will be enchanted by fragrant essential oils. Even if you're just sitting in your living room, a few drops of lavender or orange will melt away stress and put a smile on your face. Aromatherapy uses the power of essential oils to alleviate ailments in a natural way. Through inhalation or skin application, the fragrances influence the nervous system, reduce stress and promote relaxation. In pain medicine, aromatherapy is used as a gentle, complementary method to support conventional treatments. You have the opportunity to smell different fragrances and obtain interesting information on the subject.

Forget pain in virtual reality - experience the future of pain medicine.

VR glasses (virtual reality glasses) are a device that allows users to immerse themselves in a virtual environment. It works by placing special screens in front of the

of depth and space, simulating a three-dimensional world. This technology is used in various areas such as gaming, education and therapy. VR glasses create experiences that make the user feel as if they are actually there. Put on the VR glasses and immerse yourself in pain-relieving worlds and get information about the new generation of therapy on the spot.

Discover the secrets of pain perception - become part of an experiment.

Pain tolerance describes how long and how much pain a person can endure before the pain becomes unbearable. It varies from person to person and can be influenced by factors such as mood, stress and experience. Here you have the opportunity to test your pain tolerance using the so-called "ice water test" and receive further information on this topic.

Pain reduction through self-regulation - biofeedback shows you the way.

Biofeedback is a therapeutic method in which patients learn to specifically control their bodily functions such as heart rate or muscle tension. These physiological processes are made conscious through visual or acoustic feedback in order to alleviate pain and reduce stress. Biofeedback is used in pain medicine to enable patients to play an active role in their pain management and improve their quality of life in the long term. You will receive information about this method on site and can become active yourself.
