Perpetua mobilia? Inverted mirror images?
They don't exist - or do they? How illusions work is sometimes not so easy to recognize. See for yourself!

How well do you know the industrial property rights patent, utility model, trademark and design? Test your knowledge at our quiz stations. The little ones usually manage the children's quiz effortlessly!

Be amazed at our hands-on station. Be amazed, confused and enchanted by fascinating illusions! A lot literally depends "on the observer's point of view". So how real is reality?

Deceptions also play a major role in industrial property rights. Imitators regularly pretend to be the inventors or authors of commercially successful innovations. The best way to take effective action against such imitators, their plagiarisms and imitations, is with the help of industrial property rights.

But what exactly are industrial property rights?

Patents
offer innovation protection/competitive advantages for technical inventions

Utility models
protect technical inventions quickly and inexpensively

Trademarks
protect marks of origin, quality and advertising and stand for the good reputation/name/value of companies

Registered designs
protect the shape and color design of new and unique products

The German Patent and Trade Mark Office (DPMA)

Inventiveness and creativity need effective protection. Especially today, when traditional technologies have to be replaced by new, more independent, more climate-friendly and more sustainable solutions in the shortest possible time, the protection of innovations is becoming increasingly important in securing Germany as a business location. The DPMA is the German competence center for all intellectual property rights - for patents, utility models, trade marks and designs. As the largest national patent office in Europe and the fifth largest national patent office in the world, it stands for the future of Germany as a country of inventors in a globalized economy. Its almost 2800 employees at three locations - Munich, Jena and Berlin - are service providers for inventors and companies. They implement federal innovation strategies and further develop the national, European and international protection systems.
