Mental illnesses such as depression are among the most common diseases of all. The newly founded DZP in Jena aims to shed light on their causes and transfer the findings into better diagnostics, prevention and treatment approaches.

The German Center for Mental Health (DZPG), which is made up of six locations (Berlin, Bochum, Jena, Mannheim, Munich, Tübingen), will establish a translational research structure in the field of mental health that is unique in Germany. The aim is to counter the increasing social burden of mental illness with an improved understanding and, based on this, the development of innovative therapeutic approaches.

The focus of the research program at the Jena site is on the multidimensional consideration of neural circuits from the micro to the macro level in the context of inter-individual interaction between the individual and the environment, as well as intra-individual interaction between the brain and the immune system. The planned event will provide an insight into the interdisciplinary research activities of the DZPG in Jena on the basis of current and planned study projects.
