Small cells big time - How heart cells beat and nerve cells fire

How small are cells - the smallest unit of all earthly life - actually? Can they be seen under a normal microscope? What do cancer cells look like? Can heart muscle cells also beat in an experimental dish? Can networks of nerve cells be reconstructed and studied outside the brain? And do the nerve cells also talk to each other in the culture dish, as they do in our brain? Is there really a skeleton in the cell?
